In alignment with our objective to minimise the environmental impact, we are taking initiatives to increase renewable and clean energy utilisation. We are committed to enhance our energy mix with strategic shift from conventional fuels to renewable or cleaner fuels to meet our thermal and electrical energy requirements. Our facilities at Haridwar, Derabassi & Lalru uses biomass fuels like groundnut pellets, rice husk, and briquette, that provide efficient and green alternatives to fossil fuels, reducing carbon emissions. Additionally, we have successfully piloted usage of Piped Natural Gas as an alternative to HSD in the boiler. We have planned the utilisation of PNG at other suitable sites with required modifications for installation of the system.
Energy efficiency is the key step towards efficient utilization of energy within our operations. Business units of Akums are ISO 50001:2018 certified. This system ensures a conscientious reduction in energy consumption, and achieved through various energy efficiency programs. Our dedication to optimal resource utilization is evident by our routine energy audits, identified projects for energy efficiency and periodic review which ensures maximal efficiency across our operations. At Akums, we have conducted a study to assess the solar rooftop potential capacity and initiated a project to install 600 kWp solar rooftop at one of our plant in Haridwar.
Water is the most crucial natural resource for our planet and for our business, and we firmly believe in upholding equity between our business and the nearby communities where we operate. On the path of water stewardship we have developed a 4R (Reuse, Reduce, Recycle and Recharge) approach and ensure that it is strictly enforced. This enabled us in reducing our water footprints over the years. Most of our Business Units are connected with Central Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) managed by Industrial Development Authorities. At other sites we are complying with the regulatory requirements on discharged effluents. We aim to reduce our reliance on freshwater consumption and incorporating systems to help with efficient usage of water.
At Akums, health and safety is integral to our organizational principles and core values. We have implemented ISO 45001:2018 system across our operations. The safety practices are guided by a robust Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) policy. Company is on a constant growth path by creating a safe working culture with awareness on safety systems through participation of each employee.
Strategic implementation of methodologies like Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment (HIRA), and Emergency Preparedness Plan ensure swift and coordinated responses during unexpected events.
